DESCRIPTION:Community Craftivism – Zines\, Pizza\, and More! \n5-2-26 at 3:00 @ UUBN in Walker Room A zine is a little magazine. \nWe make them from one printed sheet with one cut and folding. It’s easy\, we’ll show you. We have had several sessions now of community members coming together to help local education and we have good chats along the way. We’ll have prints for Shut the Flock Off\, Identifying Hate Groups in Central Illinois\, and Understanding the Firehose of Falsehood. We have display cases going out around town and distributing them. Show up and stay for any length of time but we will eat at the end around 5:30 or 6:00. If you’re interested in catering one of these or a potluck let us know! Printing costs are covered so just bring yourself and a pair of favorite scissors if you have them but we have some too. We are finally accepting donations to recoup costs if you would like to donate 🙂

DESCRIPTION:Pretrial Fairness Under Threat – Teach-In with the Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice \n5-9-26 at 2:00 PM at UUBN in the Fell Room \nIn 2021\, the Illinois legislature passed the SAFE-T Act\, a criminal justice reform omnibus bill meant to address systemic racism in the criminal legal system. At the center of this reform package was the Pretrial Fairness Act\, legislation ending money bond\, designed to reduce pretrial jailing. In September 2023\, Illinois became the first state to eliminate the use of money bond. This session helps equip communities with the knowledge and skills to understand not only the Pretrial Fairness Act but also help out community members that encounter the criminal legal system. Join us to ensure people feel comfortable being able to speak to their pretrial rights under the Pretrial Fairness Act. Presenters from the Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice will explain how pretrial hearings look like under the new system\, the overall success of the law thus far\, the Pretrial Success Act\, and future challenges.
