Administration Committees

Administrative Committee

The Administrative Committee consists of the Senior Minister, Assistant Minister, and at least three voting members of the Church, appointed by the President with Board of Directors approval, one of who shall be a member of the Board of Directors. The Senior Minister will chair the committee.
The purpose of the Committee is to assure the continued, effective day-to-day administrative operation of the Church. This responsibility includes, but is not limited to:

  • Formulation and annual review of policies and procedures for the use of Church facilities by members, nonmembers, Church groups, and community organizations.
  • Providing advisory support for the Office Manager and Custodian.
  • Responsibility for arranging back up of Church Officers and Staff, including Ministerial and Volunteer Staff, in the case of temporary inability to perform their duties.

Note: This Committee now includes the responsibilities of the former Office Advisory Committee.

The purpose of the Denominational Affairs Committee is to relate the congregation to Unitarians and Universalists in other churches and to the broader Unitarian Universalist movements, particularly through the Central Midwest District, the Continental Unitarian Universalist Association, the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee and the worldwide International Association for Religious Freedom and Liberal Christianity. Among its responsibilities are to:

  • Inform the congregation concerning policies, plans and programs of denominational groups
  • Publicize the annual fund drives of the UUA and UUSC
  • Recruit members of the congregation to attend denominational meetings

The Finance Committee is responsible for planning that sufficient funds are available to support Church purposes, programs and property. The Church Treasurer shall be a member of this committee. Among its responsibilities are to:

  • Propose an annual operating budget for review by the Board of Directors in October
  • Plan and conduct an annual pledge drive for funds to support that budget
  • Regularly monitor the financial status of the Church and make recommendations to the Board when budget revisions are indicated
  • Educate the congregation at large about financial needs and financial status of the Church
  • Consult with the Board of Directors on efforts to secure additional funds when special needs arise
  • Cooperate with the Trustees and the Treasurer in all matters related to Church finances

Personnel

The Committee consists of three members of the Board of Directors, each serving the length of their Board tenure, and two members at large serving for three years, appointed by the Minister and the Board of Directors. Among its responsibilities are to:

  • Develop, review, revise and retain job descriptions and contract agreements for each staff position
  • Develop, review, revise and retain written personnel policies and procedures
  • Coordinate and/or participate in the advertisement, recruitment, interviewing and recommendation of successful applicants for vacancies in staff positions to the Board of Directors
  • Ensure staff orientation, training, continued education and resource support
  • Review staff requests for leave, paid and unpaid
  • If necessary, review congregational and staff grievances
  • Coordinateannual, individual, performance review of staff members by the Minister; communicate performance review information to relevant Church committees; recommend salary and benefit changes to the Finance Committee for budget consideration; assure fair compensation within fiscal means
  • Foster effective communication between staff/Board, staff/committees and staff/congregational members
