Special Task Forces (Ad Hoc Committees)

Children’s Library

The Children’s Library Task Force assists the Religious Education committee in organizing, cataloging, and purchasing new material for the Library. The Task Force consists of at least three members. When the Religious Education committee judges that the Library is in satisfactory condition, the Task Force will be dissolved.

Green Sanctuary

The purpose of the Task Force, formed in 2006, is to devise a two-year action plan to bring the Church into the UUA Green Sanctuary program. This program provides a comprehensive plan for environmental responsibility for every aspect of church life. Preliminary to the action plan will be an audit of Church environmental practices, which is the first step toward seeking accreditation as a Green Sanctuary from the Seventh Principle Project, an affiliate organization of the UUA. Once accreditation has been achieved the Task Force will be dissolved.

Land Bank

The Land Bank Task Force will identify a parcel of undeveloped rural land that would be suitable for a new Church building in thirty-years. The Task Force responsibilities include:

  • Identify at least 10 acres, but there is no specified limit
  • Assess the proximity to City services in 30 years
  • Explore creative ways of financing the land purchase (e.g. an S Corporation)
  • Present a Proposal to the Board of Directors, including a plan for financing
  • Oversee the land acquisition to completion, at which time the responsibility of the task force will end.

Safe Congregation

The purpose of the Task Force, formed in 2006, is to complete the work of the Religious Education Committee to bring the Church into the UUA Safe Congregation program. This program provides a comprehensive plan for creating a safe congregation for children, youth, and vulnerable adults. Once accreditation has been achieved the Task Force will be dissolved. The responsibilities of the Task Force include:

  • Policies and procedures developed and implemented for keeping children, youth and vulnerable adults safe from sexual abuse.
  • Policies and procedures developed and implemented for educating adults, youth, and children in the congregation about child sexual abuse and prevention.
  • Policies and procedures developed and implemented for responding to a person who has been convicted or accused of sexual offenses against children, youth or adults.

Sanitation

The Sanitation Task Force will establish a connection to City sewer along the east property line of Our Church, crossing St John’s property briefly, to the sewage connection north of the service station (see Figure 3, p. 10, of the Thirty-Year Plan, http://www.uubn.org/downloads/30YearPlan.pdf). The Task Force responsibilities include:

  • Reassessing the feasibility of a connection at this time
  • Determine whether an engineering firm is needed to first draft a plan
  • Present a Proposal to the Board of Directors, including cost estimates
  • Obtain bids from contractors for the construction if approved by the Board
  • Oversee the project to completion, at which time the responsibility of the task force will end.
